Tips to Help Cope With S.A.D

We are heading in the winter season and holiday season. For some, this is a joyous time of the year because they get to be with family and have their love buckets replenished. For others, this time of year brings a different emotion. It can be because of their family dynamic, plans for the season or the weather.
A common disorder during the winter months is Season Affective Disorder (SAD), a type of depression. SAD symptoms start in the late fall or early winter and go away during the spring and summer. SAD occurs much more often in women than in men. There are no current definite causes for SAD but it’s here and it’s real. Let’s be proactive, educate ourselves and find ways to cope with some of the suggestions the Health and Wellness team have for you.
Tips to help with S.A.D
Go outside to get some sun to boost your serotonin levels
Eat balanced meals daily, don't overload on carbs and sugar
Keep your body moving by exercising, walking, dancing, going to saunas or your favorite movement activity
Practice journaling your thoughts and emotions
Use some light therapy for a mood boost and to align your circadian rhythm
Schedule some time for self-care, aroma therapy, whatever you may like
Try to go to bed at the same time each night to help your body have a routine
Stay in touch with your community or peers
Call for help, ask for support.
